New Addition To The Family

This is Minipoo, she is the new addition to the family. Ha! If anyone would have told me this would be, I would have said with all caps, "YOU LIE!" Just so happens this little doggy used to belong to the newlyweds. They were having a serious problem training Minipoo to use the outside facilities. This resulted in Minipoo's confinement to one area, THE DOWNSTAIRS BATHROOM.

Yes, every time I went by and asked the where abouts of Miss Minipoo, she was always in the bathroom. Well yesterday out of the blue, Minipoo fell on my heart. So I called my son and told him that Minipoo didn't need to be closed off in the bathroom all the time, and that I would take her if they wanted me too. With no hesitation it was a yes! So I picked up Mini and straight to the vet we went. She got all of her shots and (OH NO!) she had ear mites. Well, we got something for that, and today I'm trying to get an appointment with a groomer because she has a few mats on her legs and a few other places.

So Minipoo although camera shy, will be in the family pics from here on. She started out trying to hold on to her title of "The Pee Pee Queen", but I'm trying to keep on top of that, as a matter of fact we're on our way outside now. Wish me luck and if you have any pointers (PLEASE SHARE)! Have a great day, and hope all of your carpets are dry!

Hey there Deb!!!! What a little beauty!!!! :) She is sooo adorable! No sooner than she eats..take her out! The earlier you get up the better.. to take her out. (5:30am) Most dogs will walk in circles to let you know that they have to go!!! Pay attention to her..she will give off plenty of clues and signals!

Hugs,
Donna

Hi Deb :)

She's a doll! The only advice I have is to keep her in a crate at night, so she won't make mistakes if you're not there. Take her out right after she eats and at least every couple of hours. Good luck :)

rue

Hi Deb... I am soooo PROUD of you for adopting Miss Minipoo in her time of need. God bless her lil puppy heart! She is simply adorable and I will pray that her ear mites clear up soon and that her coat will be smooth and tangle-free before too long. Ohhhh... I will also send up a prayer request for successful potty training! I do not have a dog, so I am helpless to you in that area. All of the cats we have and have had were "rescues"... as are the Ferrets. It's just so heartbreaking, to me, to see any animal suffering in any way... I am so excited to know that we will be seeing more photos of your newest addition!

I was glad to get your message and happy to know that you liked the song I posted about today... Rhonda sure did have a great idea for a Wednesday, didn't she?! And thank you for asking how I've been... and the answer isn't too spiffy... however, today has been the best day out of the last 7, so that is a blessing and a good sign! I think of you alot, Deb, and wonder the same... how are you making out? I'm just an email away if you ever need to talk about anything... please do not hesitate... I am going to be trying to catch up with blog-visits today, plus work on getting things ready for the UnBirthday Party this Friday! LOL I hope you will be able to join us! Have a very pleasant day, my sweet Friend... God bless...

She is just the sweetest little thing in the world!!!!!! So glad you took her in, Deb!

As for training. . . .we had a little mini pomeranian once who was VERY stubborn about being housebroken. We got those peepee pads for her. Well, they work great. She went on the pads ok. . . .for the rest of her life!!!! She would go out, be out there forever, then come in and do it on the pads. MADDENING!!!!! So I'm not one to ask about the pads. But if you would like a whole bunch of them, I'd be glad to send them to you!!!!!!

She is SO cute. We used to have a small white cock-a-poo. To train her, we put a newspaper on the kitchen floor where she would be when we were out. She got used to going on that. Then we moved the paper closer and closer to the door and finally put it outside. She went outside after that with no problem. Don't know if that works for all dogs - but check out "newspaper training" for the dog and see what you find out.
Smiles. She'll be good company for you.

I love Minipoo! Just have patience with her girl...I believe she will be so happy to know you love her and are willing to give her a home that she can truly move around in that she will do anything to please you....I have a 15 1/2 yr old little fur baby...I got her when she was 5 weeks old and she was the easy thing in the world to house break....Girl you sound just like me ..I have raised a many of my kids furbabies thru the years! lol lol

Oh how sweet Miss Minipoo is! I hear you on the housebreaking issues. I have a jack russell who never did learn very well and he is the bane of my existence. I still love the little poo mongrel though.

I think that Mini will be a very special part of your household! She surely is adorable.

Deb, Miss Minipoo is too cute! I have a 3 year old Yorkie, and when you figure out the pottie training thing, please let me know! We have our bad days and our good days! I've asked several people for pointers, and have been told they are really hard to completely train. But ours, Coco, is such a sweetheart, you can't stay mad at her for long! LOL! How old is Minipoo? She is a pretty dog!

She is so cute. Sounds like she has found her new Momma! The love of a dog is one of the greatest things on earth.

As far as the house training. I read to take them out on a regular basis(hourly) and after they wake up from sleeping, after they eat and after they play.

Judging from her expression, I believe Little Miss MiniPoo realizes she has lucked onto a Good Thing, lol!

Good luck to all of ya'll...

yes to crating at night...unless there is a medical issues (like a UTI), MiniPoo will not potty in her crate & she'll not be able to sneak about to do it somewhere else while ya'll are sleeping...

the best thing for a while during the day will be to keep her close to you so you can read when Minipoo needs to go out...

also when she does potty outside, it is reward time! lots of happy lavish praise and a cookie treat :)

also, if Minipoo has been in for a while, just get into the habit of taking her out even if she isn't asking...
