My Husband's First Garden

I've posted a lot of pictures of my gardens, so this area right next to our storage shed, that was full of our neighbor's leaves, our left over bricks from the mailbox, Canna Lilies and a pesky ground cover, has been chosen for my husband's first garden. My husband, banned from any other beds in the yard, has been known to cut down a few flowers unknowingly. Well he has finally arrived with a small place to call his own. You see he's been working to clear away all this debris. This area has great soil and earth worms galore.

This is how the area cleaned up, he has planted three tomato plants, hot peppers, squash, bell peppers, cucumbers, and later, two okra plants. The two okra plants never made the pictures because some animal came along and ate them. (Bad animals! Stay away from my husband's garden!) Now there's a good thing, underneath the storage house right where you see the lattice there's a nest of those big black and yellow bees, so they will be working the flowers on his plants.

Here he is ladies, looking all debonair with his hand stuck down in a bag of Composted Cow Manure. Smile for the camera baby! I love you. Oh yeah, our neighbors fixer upper car, just waiting for some year to be fixed up, thank God he covered it.

Look! things are actually growing in there. I really thought that I would wound up the care person for this garden but, I'm not. He's been very attentive, just as he is with me, except for that one time I won't mention. :O)

This is how it is right now, last evening he strung three lines across because the cucumbers were reaching out and wrapping themselves around the pepper plants. Next year since we know how large or small certain plants will grow, and how much area we're left with, we plan to only plant one cucumber plant and maybe add a few greens. Now, brace yourselves for what's coming up next.

WOW!

UNBELIEVABLE!

HOT TAMALE!

CUCUMBERS!

MERCY! BELL PEPPERS! THREE OF THEM! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH SAVINGS THIS WILL BE! Pardon me for a moment but, I'm actually excited! They also look so pretty I don't want to pick them. LOL! I hope you all enjoyed the tour of my husband's garden, in his small corner of the yard, made just for him. Who knows maybe next year he'll till a spread.

Great picture of your husband with the fertilizer. :) I hope to add a garden next year, with food prices going up some homegrown food would help a lot. His garden looks yummy!

Your husband seems to have this garden stuff down pat. I found a new viriety of cucumber that grows into a bush instead of vining out. It is growing well but, I haven't tasted them yet. I'll let you know. They sure do save on space though. I can't wait to read your me me also. I look forward to it. How is the living room make over coming. My craft room has come to a stand still. The yard, garden, and fruit trees have taken over it seems.

Our apartment has turned into a greenhouse with all the plants sent to us after the funeral. Plus the huge whatever (as big as a bush) we already had growing. Mom managed to revive Jolene's plant "Shammy" (yes, it's a shamrock plant.) All visible reminders of the love people expressed to us.

Yikes and yowser!! Yours is looooking gooooood, sweetpea!
Smoochies,

I'm impressed. My husband wishes I'd plant okra. He's from Oklahoma, where it grows well. We've tried to grow it here to no avail. Your husband's veggies look appetizing. He's done very well. Lucky family to eat all those goodies.

You are blessed Deb, to have many family members who left a positive impact on your life. I hope you'll share some of those memories with us and tell about your heritage. Have a pleasant Tuesday, Kathi

Connie you're so funny, he does have three cucumber plants he says he going to make pickles. I told him I hope they're not like Aunt Bee's Kerosene pickles.

Hi Deb... I just loved this post! I think it's great... how excited your dear Husband seems to be over his very own garden... and I just giggled at your excitement over the beautiful green bell peppers! LOL, you and I are alike, Deb, in so many ways ~smiles~ The photos were perfect and I think it's neat to see gardens from beginning to end. All of this has brought back a flood of memories for me about my Dad and the countless gardens he had over the years. Ahhh, but that, I suppose, is another story... perhaps an idea for a future post.

I cannot even come close to thanking you, Deb, for all of your visits and dear comments. It helps so much to know I'm not alone and to know that I'm not the only one that has had those side-road trips. Your prayers and warm thoughts have lifted me up, and I'm truly grateful for them and for the friendship you and I are cultivating in our own garden of life. Have the most wonderful day... God bless...

~hugs 'n love~

Hi Deb! Your hubby's garden looks great! My hubby loves growing veggies too. He's built beds out back behind the garage where no one can see them. Whenever I can't find him, that's the first place I look!

My, my Deb ~ its beautiful. All from a little unused corner. Amazing. My poor experimental plot has not fared well this season and will be plowed under next week. Makes me sad. But seeing photos like yours gives me hope for next year in sunnier place!

Your husband is doing a fine job! I'm so proud for him!

Smiles,
Lea

Deb, your husband's garden looks great! He sure has a green thumb!I love to watch things grow! David and I planted 2 cantalopes and 2 squash plants right before we went to Raleigh a couple of weeks ago, and Josh forgot to water them when he was doing the flowers, so needless to say, with the 100 degree temps...they didn't make it! Thank God, it is only in the 80's today and low humidity! ...absolutely gorgeous and I here I am, stuck inside cleaning house! LOL! Hope you are having a great day!

Oh, and I tagged you in today's post...so play along, if you have time! ;) Hugs, Rhonda

His garden looks wonderful! I love homegrown produce - both the taste and the cost. It's one of the things I'm looking forward to if we get to move into this new house. My in-laws are country-folk and have a huge garden. Luckily they live pretty close so I get to pick from their garden sometimes.

Yummy. I'm thinking there's some mighty good salsa you could make there. I think it's a grand idea.
