These little guys are my soul inspiration for my Country Den. I was browsing in Marshall's maybe 11 years ago and there they were. I thought to myself how cute and I swooped them up and went straight to the check out. They cost 25.00 each plus tax. They are Teddy Thompkins Bears by Enesco so cute I thought they would be a lovely collection to have.
I began my quest of finding things that I already had like this chair it means so much to me personally, I recovered it to match this room. I also went to local thrift stores to find things that could have been used long time ago. I did, nothing that I would have liked to have but authenticity cost like the dickens.
The clock you see on the wall I found for 4.00 the clock did not work and my husband had to replace the clock part of it. That lovely frame above the tv, I think it was about five dollars I think it once belonged to a dresser. It was painted green, I stripped it and stained it mahogany. Other things I found just trying to set the mood.
These pic were taken around Christmas time that's why the garland is under the mantle. Some may say it's clutter but, it's a host of things that make the country look.
The plaid chair in the corner is my biggest Thrift Sore find ever, I paid only 40.00 for the chair and ottoman. The guy there had the greatest bargains but he's out of business now possibly because of his low prices. The navy leather chair I found at a local furniture store. The lamp at a yard sale.
The plaid chair has been moved from this corner now, and this area has become where I spend most of my time visiting with you.
This is how it looks now. It's not a good picture but my camera is not so good these days.
This cow I love. The little hoop he's holding is for a small flower pot. I had one in once but, he was knocked over and it broke and I've never tried to replace it.
Now I'm ready for a change, I don't know what I'm going to do with all these things that I love, maybe transfer them to the bedroom that I use for my grand kids when they come over. I'm going to check on my bears to see it they're worth anything to anyone but me. My husband wants a leather couch and club chairs. I would like to do something different with the fireplace. A fluted surround, and slate or something. Then in keeping with the colors that I like, I thought about the French Country look, but it's a small room and I think I want to keep it simple this time. What do you think?

This could have been my house a couple of years ago before I fell in love with a simplified french country look (so you know you have my vote for that particular style). I used to have a whole cow collection and I even had a sign that said "I'm not cluttered, I'm country". I now have boxes and boxes of treasures in my basement that I am finally ready to part with.
If these pieces don't speak to you anymore and don't make you love to be in your space, then it is time for a change. (But I'm sure you knew that already. LOL) I can't wait to see what you have in mind. I'm sure it will be fabulous. I love the little row of animals - are they made out of flower pots? Too cute.
I like when blogger friends show us where they blog. Makes it more real somehow. Smiles, JoAnne
Deb, I think french country would be gorgeous if you want it. Country isn't as popular as it used to be although, if you love it then that's all that needs to be said. Romantic decor is definitely in. You have to please yourself, sweetpea. ;-)
Smoochies,
Connie
It's nice to change every so often. When we moved last year, I thought I'd decorate exactly the same as in our old house, but found it was nice to have something different. (I still have some of the favorite things - but the rest are packed in boxes and into the storage space. Couldn't bear to actually get rid of them just yet.)
Have fun redecorating!
Hugs!
Your room is so cute and cozy, Deb! You've worked hard putting it together. I understand how you want a change. I need that every now and then, too. I can't wait to see what you do here. It's going to be great!

Thanks everybody, I really do need a change. I'm excited myself to see the outcome, I will be keeping you posted. Deb
Deb, I'm embarrassed to admit that I just threw some of it out! A friend just told me I could have taken it to a women's shelter but I didn't even THINK of that! But some clothing, shoes, etc I took to a thrift store and donated it. I didn't think anyone would want our samples of floss from the dentist. Well, now I know what to do with the next cabinets!!
Smoochies sweet thang!!
Connie
Hi Deb! Your room is very cozy, but I understand wanting a change. I love the French country style. If you want to keep it fairly simple, you could always do fairly neutral larger pieces and just add that French country touch with your accessories. Way to go on the weight loss!
Deb, Those things bring back so many memories. Do you have a consignment store around where you live? Or maybe move them to another room if you're still attached to them. There's nothing wrong with that. I understand wanting a change. From time to time we all do.
Tag you're it!! Come to my blog for the details!!
Hugs, Terrie
I love your room how it is, but I agree if your decor isn't exciting you anymore then it's time for a change! I love french country! I just say on HGTV a french country makeover on a kitchen. It was so cute!! I think country, french country and primitive country is still in. I can't wait for the transformation! I hope your sign got to you in one piece. I'm always so nervous how to package a big piece like that. Have a great night!
Oh, Deb, I saw a comment you left for Tammy on her blog that you haven't received your sign...I hope you get it soon. I sent it on Friday. It should of been there by now. That makes me nervous...
Deb I know what you mean you still love the look but know you need something different. I think some leather furniture wouldn't be bad and then you could add in red checkered paneled curtains and pillows. Its fun to redecorate but overwhelming to but have fun doing it!!:0)~Wendy
hey girl...Ohhhh this could have been in my house just last year!!! I love it but I went thru some changes also and gave away over half of my stuff to my family! lol lol I am still in a changing mood but haven't figured out what exactly I want...I know what ever you decide it will look just as fantasic as you have made it look here..just always make sure it calls you girl!!! lol lol Have a great night!
Deb,
I totally understand about wanting a change too.
French country is definitely still in and I bet it would look great in that room. Find some pictures that inspire you and start from there!
Now, I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Hi Deb... Just popping in to see how you've been. I really like the room you showed, and can only imagine how much work is ahead of you with the upcoming changes you're planning on. I'm loving the froggie sitting on your mantel... he makes me think of my oldest son. I like the idea of taking some things to a consignment shop... of course, there's always the dreaded yard sale option ~cringe~ I have such Faith in you and your creative abilities! Whatever direction you go in, I'm sure will be successful and beautiful.
I hope the heat is not too unbearable where you are. Please take care and I'm still praying for you, my Friend. God bless...
~hugs~

Hi Deb ~
First let me say thank you so much for your prayers for Colton. He is doing wonderful well and we are praising the Lord for that gift.
It is nice to be back visiting with you.
That chair is a nice find. Love the way you incorporated that frame into your decor. Very clever! I hope you find a way to still incorporate it into your home ... if I lived closer I'd come pick it up! LOL Your room is lovely, but if you're ready for a change do try to research some of your items before you sell them. You might be able to make a nice little investment in your new room.
Blessings & joy,
Lea
oh.... I love the bears and how you decorated your house. Very nice!
I have changed so much during the years. I also loved the country look..I am actually looking to simplify..get rid of stuff.
I would do what you like!
Funny...I could do the same thing around my house..most of my things are from garage sale finds and thrifting..fun!
I just love the bears in front of the fireplace! I have always loved bears and collected them for years. I think you should do what you like. As for myself, I decided to put away my bears for a while, and put out some other things. Maybe someday I'll bring them back. Love your living room! It's so pretty and homey.

Deb, you did a wonderful job decorating this room. It is so cozy! But I can understand wanting a change! The french country look would be so pretty and you might even be able to refurbish and "reinvent" some of the things you already have to fit into your new decor! This will be a fun and refreshing project! Hope you will keep us posted step-by-step, through your decorating journey!
Hugs, Rhonda :)
I love it the way it is right now. It' gorgeous. However, everyone likes to make a change now and then, and French Country is so beautiful and romantic. I'd love to see what you come up with. Hugs, Kathi
Deb, I can't wait to see what you do. I know it will be good. Work for you, fun for me. If you have a garage sale with all that stuff, I just might be go'in to Alabam for a sale. HA! Please keep us updated.
